Wage increases, better personal time, stronger benefits- all are now written into the rights of the union workers at Skokie Public Library, who recently won their second union contract.

“I’m excited that we secured such great benefits for our members, and I’m grateful that so many folks came and observed during open bargaining,” said Rachael Bild, a teen services librarian at Skokie Public Library. Bild listed longevity bonuses, vacation rollover and more as some of the most exciting benefits that were won in the new contract.

In 2023, Skokie Public Library workers made history by winning their first union contract. It included language for terminations for just cause and established a grievance process that allowed workers to exercise their rights when facing discipline.

“As a union member, this bargaining has given me something to continue working for with the knowledge that I will get another week of vacation next year,” said PJ, a program assistant at Skokie Public Library.
