Morton Teaching Assistants Win Huge Raises in New Contract
Morton High School District #201 Teaching Assistants (TAs) have won a 30% wage increase over the course of their new five-year contract.
“This was the best contract our unit has ever negotiated, so much so that our membership voted unanimously to pass it,” said Stacy Rusakiewicz, Bargaining Team Member.
The contract contains penalties for the district if they utilize too many temporary workers, including $500 to TAs if they go between 26-35% temp staffing, and $750 if they go between 36-40%. In addition, attendance policy changes will ensure workers are not penalized for taking sick leave.
“As Morton Teaching Assistants get ready to start the new school year, they know they’re starting with a contract that respects the essential work they provide for students,” said SEIU Local 73 President Dian Palmer. “This year we have worked to secure across the board wage increases and new benefits for the members we represent and Morton TAs are no exception.”
