Carol Stream Public Works Maintenance Workers Win Big in New Contract
Carol Stream Public Works Maintenance workers have landed a new contract with no losses and all wins. This shows the power of having a union.
After months of negotiations with the Village of Carol Stream, members were able to secure a contract that continues to keep their communities clean without compromising their well-being. Carol Stream Public Works Maintenance workers keep their communities safe and clean and deserve a contract that reflects that.
Our new contract will go along way to help bring in new employees and retain our existing ones with a wage increase that moves them faster through the salary range and improves their access to sick leave.
– Martin Zamecnik, Carol Stream Public Works Maintenance worker and member.
Their new contract includes the following:
- Maximum compensation time increased to 42 hours per year and can be used in increments of 1 hour.
- Use of personal time with less than 24 hours notice shall not be arbitrarily denied.
- Timeline for filing grievances extended to 10 days.
- Improved union access language.
- 2.75% wage increase each year of the contract, an additional 0.75% increase for all bargaining unit members not at the top of the scale. Raises are retroactive to May 1.
