Access SMTD Workers Secure Hefty Raises in New Contract

The paratransit operators of Access Sangamon Mass Transit District (SMTD) have secured hefty raises in their new contract. New employees will receive 14-22% wage increases over the three-year contract.
Access SMTD provides transportation for persons with disabilities who are unable to use the SMTD fixed-route bus service.
In addition to the wage increases, workers also secured increases in personal leave days and a new personal leave day awarded every July 1.
“Our members provide a vital service for people with disabilities in the Springfield area,” said Joseph Richert, Secretary-Treasurer of SEIU Local 73. “Every day, they get people where they need to go safely, from medical appointments to shopping for every day necessities.”
