Arlington Heights Custodians Gain Out-of-Class Pay

Arlington Heights

The new contract for custodians in Arlington Heights School District #25 contains some significant increases including across the board wage increases and secured out-of-class pay. Previously, custodians called to do work above their payrate had to work five consecutive days to earn out-of-class pay. The new contract provides this pay after 5 total days worked in a fiscal year. Prior to this change, no custodian ever qualified for out-of-class pay.

Management also tried to change second shift lunch to unpaid. Members unanimously pushed back against this proposal, forcing management to withdraw it.

“Credit for the uncomplicated negotiation process goes to our union for understanding that the support of these policies would ensure these raises,” said Fred Wimmer, Chief Steward.
