Contract Win for Lyons District 103 Custodians

Jason Cory (1)

Previous contract negotiations have always been combative. This year was different and the result was a stronger contract for custodians in Lyons School District 103.

“Negotiations used to be a huge fight,” said Jason Cory, union steward. “But this year both sides stepped up to repair the relationship and secure a fair contract.”

SEIU Local 73 and the bargaining team successfully reduced a proposed double-digit health insurance increase and secured wage increases to not only cover any increased costs, but also provide workers with an additional $1,200/year increase.

“Those raises are needed more than ever and will be a big help to our staff,” said Cory.

In addition, the union secured two seats on the insurance committee for the first time ever. This will give the workers a say in future insurance changes. The new contract also establishes protocols to further protect against contracting out work.
