Anixter Workers See New Wage Increases, Credit Legislative and Political Gains

Anixter

Workers at Anixter recently accepted a raise in wages for DSP and Advocate positions. With the labor market in flux, these positions were becoming difficult to fill. Management therefore proposed a 2.5% increase in pay for the final year of the contract for the two roles. Members and SEIU Local 73 leaders believe this increase was largely made possible by the legislative and political work the union has done to improve the lives of social service workers.

DSPs
The starting rate for DSPs per the contract is now $16.40. Anticipating an increase in the DSP wage reimbursement rate in January, the starting wage will be increased to $18.00 per hour effective immediately. Current DSPs will also see an increase in their rate of $1.60 per hour.

Management will then move all the DSPs making less than the reimbursement amount to the full reimbursement amount of $19.55/hour.

Advocates
The Advocate position has a starting rate of $17 per hour, and Anixter has increased that starting rate to $20 per hour. This increase will only impact new hires, as the current Advocate makes $20.50 per hour.

“Our work on the political and legislative front was crucial in these wage increases,” said Executive Vice President Jeffrey Howard. “We have worked hard to raise awareness on the issues social service workers face, which have been compounded by an ever-changing economic landscape. We’re proud of what our members have done to contribute in any way to make the narrative about supporting social services, not dismantling them.”
