Food service workers at Merrillville Community School Corporation in Indiana won a 2 percent wage increase from their wage reopener. Also included in the contract is the use of personal days when students are learning remotely.

“Having our union allowed us to negotiate the use of personal days when students were learning remotely,” said Head Cook and Steward Penny Parmley. “This ensures we won’t lose pay when students aren’t here.”

The workers have agreed to option a reopener every year in which three items can be raised by labor or management.
