SEIU 73 members at City Colleges showed up — and management ran.

SEIU Local 73 members at City Colleges of Chicago attempted to bargain with City Colleges management on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. All members were invited to the bargaining session to witness contract negotiations firsthand. Management did not want to have conversations about the union contract in front of union members who are not on the bargaining committee and demanded that they leave. When the committee refused to kick out their union brothers and sisters, management refused to meet.

This shows the power that members have in a union. Management was scared to defend their proposals publicly, and they’re afraid that transparency will expose their true feelings about their workers. This is why we must continue to stand together and fight for the right for members to attend and observe bargaining.

Members from different City Colleges campuses stood together in solidarity after management refused to meet with us and took pictures to show our strength. Together we will win!
