Gov. Pritzker Agrees to Local 73 Request for Vaccinations for Secretary of State Workers

SoS Facility

On Jan. 19, SEIU Local 73 called on Governor Pritzker to include Secretary of State workers in Phase 1B of the IDPH vaccination Plan. We are pleased to announce Governor Pritzker has responded “people who are employed at Secretary of State facilities that provide certain in-person services that are in close proximity to another person, such as the front counter support staff and those staff who are getting into the cars with customers are included in Phase 1B.”

We recognize the vital services each of you has been providing the citizens, businesses, and government in Illinois throughout the pandemic. It is critical all essential workers, at-risk for exposure to COVID, have access to PPE and the vaccines being administered by the State of Illinois.

SEIU believes the best way to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities is to receive the vaccine However we also believe this is a personal decision. You can go to our webite for additional information on the vaccines.

If you are providing in-person services that are in close proximity to another person, such as the front counter support staff and those staff who are getting into the cars with customers, we hope you will schedule an appointment to take the vaccine. All vaccinations are by appointment only. You can find vaccination locations and sign-up for appointments here. When you sign-up for an appointment, be sure to select Frontline Essential Worker for your Category.

While we would have preferred all SoS employees be eligible for the vaccine we recognize the importance of inoculating the most at-risk employees at SoS first. Local 73 will continue to push for expanded eligibility.
