We won the MEABF Chicago Pension Board Trustee Election!
SEIU Local 73 and AFSCME Council 31 members teamed up to elect Verna Thompson for Municipal Employees’ Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago Pension Board Trustee.
Management pulled out all the stops to retain control of this seat, including limiting the voting times and locations, refusing to allow members to vote by mail, and printing incumbent’s name on election materials, Nevertheless, a tremendous team effort resulted in victory.

I also want to thank everyone that worked so hard to spread the word about this election and get me on the ballot in the first place. I am very happy to report that together we won! As a member of the board municipal pension board trustees, I am looking forward to being a strong advocate for the workers covered by this pension plan. Now the hard work begins. The vote totals were 437 for Verna Thompson and 361 and 311 for the next 2 runner-ups. verna is the first member of SEIU Local 73 to have a seat on the Municipal Pension Board. We did it!
Verna Thompson is committed to working towards having a more open election process for the next election and to keep an open dialogue with pension fund members.
