Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
The Trump administration has announced the revocation of TPS for certain nationalities, impacting over 532,000 migrants currently authorized to work in the U.S. under this program.
– What Happens When TPS Ends?
Once TPS expires for a designated country, individuals revert to their prior immigration status. If no other immigration relief applies, they could become undocumented and subject to deportation.
– Key Expiration Dates:
Haiti: August 3, 2025
Venezuela: April 7, 2025 (NOTE: A U.S. District Judge has blocked the Trump administration from moving forward with ending TPS for Venezuelans.)
Registration Requirement for Immigrants
On February 25, 2025, the Trump administration announced it would require some undocumented immigrants to register with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). On March 7, it shared a new rule explaining how the system will work. This new rule will start on April 11. The announcement raises many concerns, especially because similar registration processes have been used in the past to target vulnerable groups.
