Workers Unite for May Day March in Chicago

Workers are facing the most broad and brutal attacks we’ve seen in recent history. But as long as we have our unions, we know we can fight back, and we know we are not alone.
Working with our immigration rights, workers centers and union allies, SEIU Local 73 took to the streets to show solidarity with all workers on International Workers’ Day.

“I’m a union steward, so I’m here to support Chicago Park District Workers who are fighting for insurance for ALL, not just full-time workers.“ – Ryan, CPkD
“The energy is amazing here today, it’s impactful to see so many union workers. My message to workers everywhere is to continue to fight! We have the power TOGETHER to fight for better working conditions. You are NOT alone.” – Yasmine, UIC
“I teach at Loyola University, and we’re currently fighting for our third contract. We are demanding higher wages and a seat at the table and that is why I showed up today.” – Paige, Loyola Faculty Forward
In the days leading up to the May Day rally and march, Local 73 members joined with Local 1, and HCII, to construct a 15 foot tall puppet which was a centerpiece of the day. In conjunction with puppeteers from Flying Leap Productions, members collaborated to build a giant puppet called Esperanza, to celebrate our voices, our immigrant identities and our power.

This May Day, we stand with workers from across the world in strength and solidarity, and recommit ourselves to the fight for social, racial and economic justice for all workers.
