When We File We Win!

When our union sister Eva learned that she was not offered to work overtime as she should of been she filed a grievance. Under Eva’s contract the Department of Aviation is required to offer overtime shifts to the most senior employees in their respective order but Eva was denied any offer, and the shift was given to someone else.
Eva’s contract makes sure to reward seniority by giving employees with the highest number of years of service first dibs on overtime shifts. Contract language honoring seniority like this is often used to encourage the retention of employees and job security.
I was rewarded time and a half for one day, and double time for another day. I’m very pleased with the outcome of this grievance, it’s great to know we have a team that will support us. You have every right to stand up for yourself if your contract was violated! This victory sends a message to management that our union will not just fight but also win!
