Local 73 Education Workers Under Attack

Save DOE

On March 11, 2025, Linda McMahon and the Department of Education announced that it will lay off 1,315 Department of Education workers–nearly 50% of its workforce. These layoffs, veiled as an attempt to increase government efficiency, is an attack on the American public education system. Gutting the Department of Education will inevitably decrease access, resources, and equity in education for millions of students of all ages who benefit from public schools and the jobs of millions of support staff and educators who support them. All people–no matter their race, the color of their skin, where they are from, where they live, or their learning ability–deserve a quality and accessible education.

Now is the time to lift up why the Department of Education and our public education system is essential for all students and critical in building strong communities.

Trump attacks the public education system and weakens a cornerstone of our communities. We won’t back down until all students and workers have the resources they need to thrive.
