Advanced Practice Providers at University of Illinois Health File to Join SEIU Local 73

Advanced Practice Care Providers at the University of Illinois Health system have filed cards with the Illinois Education Labor Relations Board (IELRB) to join SEIU Local 73.

The unit of advanced practice providers includes advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who provide care at University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital, Mile Square clinics, as well as other locations that UI Health staffs.

“As nurse practitioners in urgent care, we are on the front lines every day, and we deserve a voice in decisions that affect our working conditions and patient care. Unionizing would give us the power to advocate for better support, fair compensation, and improved resources to help us do our jobs more effectively,” said Caroline Rodriguez, nurse practitioner at Miles Square Health Center (MSHC) Urgent Care.

“As a registered nurse, I understand firsthand the challenges these workers face to provide essential care for their patients. We look forward to backing these providers as they work to have more power over their practice,” said Dian Palmer, SEIU Local 73 President.

Workers are awaiting a hearing date from the IELRB.
