SEIU Local 73 Endorsed Candidates Win Across Illinois and Indiana

Despite losing the presidential election, 93 percent of SEIU Local 73 endorsed candidates won their elections in Illinois and Indiana.

“Despite the challenges we faced in the recent election, we are far from defeated,” said SEIU Local 73 President Dian Palmer. “This setback only fuels our resolve. We’ve come too far to let one election knock us off course. Our fight for a voice on the job in an economy that works for all of us isn’t over—it’s just beginning, and we’re more fired up than ever to keep pushing forward.”

Members from SEIU Local 73 are at the forefront of the fight for Unions for All for the millions of hard-working families who deserve a voice on the job. SEIU Local 73 remains steadfast, committed to ensuring that those written out are not forgotten and placed at the center of our ongoing fight for a healthy, thriving future for the communities we serve.

“Our mission for economic justice and Unions for All remains unwavering. We’ve seen the lengths to which the MAGA movement will go to roll back our progress, but we are united and ready to stand firm. They won’t divide us or silence our demand for a just and equitable America,” resolved Palmer. “This unity makes us all part of a larger movement for change.”

SEIU’s work in this election was monumental. It reached over 7 million voters in eight battleground states, with outreach in 12 languages to reflect our nation’s rich diversity. In the final days, SEIU members knocked over a million doors and made 4.8 million phone calls, proving that we are a force to be reckoned with.

SEIU members are calling for structural change to fix our broken democracy because Trump and the billionaires he represents know how to game the system. They use their money and influence to spread misinformation and sow chaos, rely on racist voter suppression, restrictive voter ID laws, limited polling locations, and partisan purges of voting rolls. They gerrymander the maps, they attack our democratic institutions, and they lie to the American people to maintain power.

“This is not the end but the beginning of a stronger movement,” added Palmer. “The billionaires and corporate CEOs backing the MAGA agenda may try to manipulate the system with voter suppression, gerrymandering, and lies. But we are united in pursuing a future filled with economic justice and racial equality.”

Local 73’s political work is funded through voluntary contributions to our political action committee, COPE. COPE contributions give us the ability to elect candidates who support our members and our issues.

“Member involvement has been the key to our political success,” said Jeff Howard, Executive Vice President. “From door knocking to phone banking and everything in between, Local 73 members stepped up to get our endorsed candidates elected. I encourage all of our members to contribute to COPE so we can continue to elect candidates who support us and win on critical legislative issues,” said Howard.
