Tollway Workers Secure Wage and Longevity Increases in New Contract
Illinois State Tollway Authority Clerks, Warehouse Workers, and Custodians approved a new four-year contract after 17 months of negotiations, which secured significant wage and longevity increases.
“Negotiations with Tollway management were difficult,” said Roy Dominguez, Custodial 3 and Bargaining Team member. “I’m hoping the contract we reached will please both sides and in the future negotiations won’t be as lengthy or contentious.”
“The Tollway was ruthless and shot down every avenue we tried to approach getting improved compensation for our work,” said Phillip Wacker, Parts Clerk for 11 years and Bargaining Team Member. “In the end, this was the best contract we could get.”
Over the course of the new contract Section Clerks, Part Clerks and Warehouse Workers will receive wage increases of 19%, and Custodians will receive 18% in wage increases. All workers will receive a $500 signing bonus and longevity wage increases for workers with 10-25 years of service.
“This contract is the product of the commitment of our members to secure a contract that values their work for the State of Illinois,” said Joseph Richert, SEIU Local 73 Secretary-Treasurer. “We are committed to growing stronger in preparation for our next contract in a couple of years.
