After six days of a strong and united ULP strike that drove UCMC crazy, members have voted to ratify the contract. The strike will end and workers will return to their regularly scheduled shifts starting Sunday, July 21, at 7am.

The deal is more than UCMC wanted to give and more than they offered before the strike started. We got 5%, 3%, 3% with an $800 bonus, improvements in shift differentials, and stronger language on holidays, bereavement, and Advancement to Operating Engineer.

As you return to work we encourage you to meet up outside your normal entrance and go into work together to show our unity.

“This is the best contract I’ve seen in my time here at the hospital,” said Justin Babitsch, Painter of 12 years. “Our ULP Strike sent a strong message to management for our bargaining in future contracts.”

“I want to thank everyone for standing strong on the picket line every day. This is the strongest I’ve ever seen our unit. They know we will not lay down for them ever again,” said Vincent Muhm, Operating Engineer. “And thanks to President Palmer and Executive VP Jeff Howard for standing with us.”

“125 workers stood up to this $4 billion bully and showed them who we are,” said SEIU Local 73 President Dian Palmer. “We will only get stronger! “I’m proud of all of you and this fight is not over. We will continue to build and grow stronger and continue to fight UCMC to get what each of you deserve!”
