City of Berwyn Workers Ratify Union Contract with Major Wins
Significant pay increases and more vacation time are coming to the City of Berwyn after workers overwhelmingly voted to ratify a new union contract.
The newly ratified agreement includes a 21.5% pay increase over the life of the contract, up to $15,000 in salary adjustments, sick leave buy-out, and an additional $100 a month for bilingual workers. Berwyn workers also won additional personal days, a birthday holiday, an extra five vacation days for workers with 25 years of seniority, and an additional 20 hours of comp time.
Workers also won stronger retirement benefits, including a 457 retirement plan and severance payment at retirement.
“Berwyn workers have won a union contract that recognizes and values their commitment towards public service. I want to thank the bargaining committee and Chief Steward and Negotiator Sergio Diaz for their hard work in negotiations. When we fight, we win,” said Secretary-Treasurer Joe Richert.
