Univ. of Chicago Workers Ratify Contract!

We are thrilled to announce that our contract for University of Chicago Facilities Skilled Trade workers has been ratified with a strong majority of members voting yes! 

This is a three-year contract that begins retro back to Nov. 1, 2023, until Oct. 31, 2026.

Here are some highlights of the new contract:

• Juneteenth as a paid holiday!
• Option to work through lunch for a straight eight-hour shift.
• If CUP operates two plants, employees working over 40 hours get a 10% shift differential along with overtime.
• Provided uniforms for workers who are outside in the heat.
• Provided prescription safety glasses.

We will be reaching out to the University to get a timeline for implementation, particularly of the signing bonus, retro and raises.

We appreciate all members who came out to bargaining, wore buttons in meetings and delivered our petition to the University President. It is only because of our unity that we were able to get the strongest contract this year in the Facilities Department.
