Waukegan Food Service Workers Take on Sodexo and Win!
When Sodexo took over the food services contract at Waukegan Community Unit School District #60 they were not interested in providing any of the pay and benefits provided in the previous union contract with Aviands/K12 by Elior. The workers had other plans.
“Sodexo was trying to take away a lot of what we negotiated in our previous contract,” said Andrea Bandy, Lead Supervisor at McCall Elementary. “We stood firm and made sure we continue to get our wage increases, holiday pay, and paid lunch breaks. We also fought for and won two hours of additional pay for anyone doing the job of an absent employee.”
Workers will continue to receive 15.5% in wage increases over the next five years along with longevity pay increases for long-term workers who started prior to 2017.
