East Chicago Transportation and Security Workers Join Local 73
The School City of East Chicago Board of Education unanimously voted to recognize union status for the transportation and security bargaining unit. More than 40 safety specialists, bus drivers, and bus monitors will become members recognized under the Paraprofessionals contract.
“Superintendent Mitchell said this will improve the morale of our departments and that’s a good start,” said Janice Martin, School City of East Chicago Bus Driver. “Now we’re ready to fight for a fair contract which will include the healthcare coverage, wages, and hours we deserve.”
“We’re grateful that the Board of Education finally recognized our right to have union representation,” said Kenneth Mobley, School City of East Chicago Bus Driver. “Thanks to Local 73 for standing with us!”
“We are so proud to welcome our newest members,” said Jeffrey Howard, Executive Vice-President. “Our union continues to grow here in Northwest Indiana as a shining example of unions for all.”
