Local 73 Successfully Wins Reinstatement of Senior Hemodialysis Technologist

SEIU Local 73 successfully won the reinstatement of Miguel Escobar, Assistant Chief Hemodialysis Technologist, after an arbitrator ruled that the University of Illinois-Chicago did not have just cause for his termination.

Miguel was terminated after working at UIC for 23 years. Arbitrator George Roumell sustained a grievance filed by Local 73 because management failed to conduct an objective investigation into the alleged misuse of medical equipment and did not consider Miguel’s seniority.

“The grievance process was challenging because there were a lot of delays. But, the union answered my questions and kept me informed. Had I not had a union, they probably would have gotten away with firing me.” said Miguel Escobar. “A union has your back and will continue to fight with you until the last moment.”
