SEIU Local 73 Endorsed Candidates Win Big on Primary Day

SEIU Local 73 members proved the difference union voters make in elections on Tuesday when the vast majority of endorsed candidates won. Among them was Alexi Giannoulias for Secretary of State, Monica Gordon for Cook County Commissioner in the 5th District, and Delia Ramirez in the 3rd Congressional District.

“Local 73 members understand our vote is our voice, and they spoke out loud in the primary election,” said SEIU Local 73 President Dian Palmer.

“We are proud to have endorsed candidates who support working families across Illinois,” said Palmer. “We believe Alexi Giannoulias understands how to involve and listen to our members on the frontline delivering services across the state. We know Monica Gordon will fight for our Cook County members wrongfully denied pandemic pay by Toni Preckwinkle. And Delia Ramirez has fought for our members in the state legislature, and she will continue to fight for us in Congress!”

“The fight to elect these candidates doesn’t end here,” said Palmer. “In four months, we have to show up for the General Election where women’s rights, civil rights, and voting rights are at stake. This election is about Americans who believe in a government of, by, and for the people and Trump Republicans who are hell bent on overturning the will of the people by violent insurrection, Supreme Court decree, and by state legislatures.”

“Make no mistake. Our very freedoms are under attack by Trump Republicans,” said Palmer. “We will continue to work toward electing leaders in November who support unions and working families.”

In conjunction with the SEIU Illinois State Council, our union conducted an endorsement process to determine which candidates best support working families’ issues and merited our endorsement for the 2022 primary election. The full list of endorsed candidates may be found here.
