UChicago Collegiate Assistant Professors Win Significant Raises and Teaching Flexibility
The Collegiate Assistant Professors at the University of Chicago, represented by SEIU Local 73, have won significant raises and teaching flexibility in their new four-year contract.
“We’re all excited about our new contract. We fought for and won a significant raise and greater flexibility around teaching and leave,” said Geoffrey Traugh, collegiate assistant professor. “We fought for and won more money for research and for child care.”
The new contract includes 13.5% in raises over the next four year including increases in professional development, publication, and childcare allowances as well as moving expense reimbursement. Also included is new language providing CAPs access to resources necessary to do their work as well as leave time for research.
“It wasn’t always easy, but the experience brought us together as a union, and we’re eager to carry that momentum forward as we organize for CAPs and alongside other academic workers at UChicago,” said Traugh.
