SEIU Breaks Down Emergency Rental Assistance Eligibility

Emergency Rental Assistance

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our everyday lives and has left millions of renters struggling to make monthly payments, face rental debt or are in jeopardy of losing housing. As eviction moratoriums are being lifted across the country, state and local programs are taking applications from renters to distribute money from the Treasury Department’s Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program in their own communities.

Learn more about Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) and find out if you eligible

ERA programs were created to help renters cover their housing-related costs and remain housed during the pandemic. These programs have distributed more than 1.4 million payments to households, totaling more than $7.7 billion to support the housing stability of vulnerable renters.

The eligibility requirements, and how money is distributed, varies across states and localities. It can be difficult to navigate, so we’ve created a really helpful information page with links, resources and guides for ERA.

The Emergency Rental Assistance Information page will give you a better understanding of the program and what the specifics and requirements are in your area. It will also answer many of the questions you might have, including:

  • Am I eligible for emergency rental assistance?
  • What does emergency rental assistance cover?
