On May 19, SEIU Local 73 members and staff stood in solidarity with McDonald’s workers who are striking for the wages and respect they deserve. Dozens of workers and their allies gathered in Union Park and marched to the new McDonalds Headquarters. We rallied outside and heard speeches from fast-food workers and their allies (including former SEIU Local 73 member and current 25 Ward Alderman Byron Sigcho Lopez) who spoke about their struggles with low pay, sexual assault, harassment on the job, and the urgent need for $15/hr.

McDonald’s made nearly $5 billion in profit last year during the pandemic, but the workers who they put in harm’s way are still struggling with poverty wages. It’s time for McDonald’s to pay their workers their fair share.
