CPS Tells Staff to Return Jan. 27 While Students Continue Remote Learning
Currently CPS teachers and staff for k-8 are scheduled to return to work on Wednesday, Jan. 27, even though CPS has instructed students to not return until Feb. 1. We want all members to understand their options and answer all questions regarding our contract, rights, and ensuring the safety of everyone.
If you already have an ADA exemption allowing you to work remotely you should continue to work remotely.
Members who have submitted COMPLETE (their portion and the doctor’s portion) ADA Accommodation requests (for their own medical condition) can continue working remotely until it is processed.
Those with non-ADA Accommodation requests (for childcare reasons and caretakers of people with high risk medical conditions) would have to report in-person until their application is processed.
For those who have not applied for any accommodations, or have applied for an ADA exemption but been denied, here are your options:
- Return to work as scheduled
- Take a Zero day
If you were denied an ADA accommodation for your own medical condition, please contact your steward, your union organizer, or the MAC, in that order.
SEIU Local 73 will stand in support of any member retaliated against for refusing to work in unsafe conditions.
Our contract explicitly says that we can not engage in a strike or support a strike.
