CPS is Stalling and Stonewalling. Enough is Enough-Attend a Strike School Today
After almost one-year of negotiations, CPS management has not responded in a serious way to any of our proposals aimed at making sure that Chicago Public Schools are safe, clean and provide a quality education to students in special education. CPS is ignoring proposals to increase pay, reward longevity, and restore paid benefit time (banked and accrued) that was taken in previous contracts to make CPS a better place to work. We need to say ‘enough is enough’ and the time for action is now.
Until we take action, there is no risk or consequences for their stonewalling and stalling. After all, they were the ones who took the raises and benefit time away in the past, pay low wages that don’t support our families, and shift the cost of healthcare on to us and our families. They made the decision to have short-staffing so the schools are not as clean or safe as they should be or that pulls SECAs away from our assigned students to work out of classification. CPS made the decision to pay millions to Sodexo and Aramark and put their profits ahead of Chicago students and workers. We have one scheduled negotiations left on May 16th at the SEIU Local 73 Office on 300 S. Ashland Ave from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. You should be there to demand they stop stonewalling.
Enough is Enough!
We will hold votes at and near your schools and bus barns to authorize our Union Negotiating Committee to call for a strike. Every member will need to vote. Before we vote we will hold Strike Schools to learn about what it means to go on strike. They will be held at the Local 73 Office on the following dates:
Wednesday May 15th – 5:30p to 8:30p & Saturday May 18th 10:00a to 1:00p.
