Fight Back For Chicago Schools Friday

Governor Bruce Rauner, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and Chicago Public Schools CEO Forrest Claypool continue to use Chicago students and school staff as pawns in their budget standoff and we’re headed to City Hall Friday morning at 10 a.m. to fight back.

Because of their failure to reach an agreement to properly fund Chicago schools and pensions, professional development days scheduled for Feb. 3 and April 7 are now being used as unpaid furlough days. These development days, which are contractually agreed to, are vital towards coming together to create better schools.

The unpaid furlough days barely make a dent in the $215-million budget shortfall. There are better ways to balance the budget besides taking money from our student’s futures.

We are tired of being pawns. We will join with our allies at City Hall at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3 to invest in Chicago’s education: stop the furlough days and properly fund Chicago schools now!
