Plainfield Park District Members Win Historic Wage Increases

Plainfield Parks Article 02.15.23

Maintenance workers at the Plainfield Park District are celebrating the ratification of a new contract with historic wage increases and clarity around job duties.

The new agreement includes wage increases throughout the life of the contract totaling $5/hr for all, raising the minimum starting rate to $20/hr by year 4. Workers also gained more flexibility for taking sick leave, two additional paid holidays per year, and expanded comp time.

Additionally, workers will no longer be required to sub-in to do horse barn duty and will be allowed to purchase safety boots from their vendor of choice.

“Compared to the gruel we’ve been receiving for decades, we’ve achieved success. To infinity and beyond!” said John Nickl and Genaro Guzman, Stewards and Bargaining Committee members.
