The results for the officer elections are in. Ballots were mailed on October 16-17, 2019. Votes were counted at the SEIU Local 73 office in Chicago on Thursday, November 14, 2019 in the presence of observers.

Leadership Assembly Delegate Elections 

 

The results for the Leadership Assembly Delegate election are in. For most Regions, there were not sufficient eligible candidates and, as such, the eligible candidates in the following Regions were elected without the need for an election pursuant to Rule 5(c) of the Leadership Assembly Delegate Election Rules.

REMINDER: Ballots for the SEIU Local 73 Officer and Leadership Assembly Delegate Elections have been mailed to the home addresses on file for members.  If you have not received a ballot, please contact the Election contractor at 888-317-1906.  Members can request a new ballot after 9 a.m. EST on October 23, 2019 and no later than 5 p.m. EST on November 6, 2019.  In order to be counted, the ballots must be received by 10 a.m., or soon thereafter, on November 14, 2019 at the P.O. Box designated on the return ballot envelope.

Officer Elections

In accordance with the terms of the Voluntary Compliance Agreement between the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) – Office of Labor Management Standards (OLMS) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 73, SEIU Local 73 will conduct a new election under the supervision of the Secretary of Labor for the following offices: president, secretary treasurer, two (2) executive vice presidents, five (5) vice presidents, two (2) Region 2 (UIC) executive board members, three (3) Region 3 (Cook County) executive board members, two (2) Region 7 (Other Employers in the City of Chicago) executive board members, and one (1) Region 13 (Northwest Indiana) executive board member. The eight (8) executive board member positions will be elected by the membership in their respective region and all other positions will be elected by the membership at large.

The term of office will be for the remainder of the unexpired three year term which began on November 8, 2018 and will continue until their successors are duly elected and installed. Installation of officers will take place prior to November 22, 2019.

The voluntary compliance agreement also provides for new nominations to be conducted for any race in which a candidate from the challenged election drops candidacy or is deemed ineligible. As of this date, three candidates either declined candidacy or were deemed ineligible. Therefore, nominations for the following offices only will be reopened on August 26, 2019: Region 2 Executive Board member, Region 7 Executive Board member, and Region 13 Executive Board member. New nominees will be required to obtain the same number of petition signatures required of candidates during the challenged election. Candidates from the challenged October 2018 election who are eligible to run in this election will not be required to obtain new petition signatures. The nominations and election will be conducted in accordance with Title IV of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 (LMRDA), and insofar as lawful and practicable, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and Bylaws of SEIU Local 73 adopted July 9, 2018, and the SEIU International Constitution dated 2016.

The candidates elected in conformity with all applicable statutes shall, by virtue of such election, be considered to be eligible delegates to attend all conventions and delegate bodies to which SEIU Local 73 is affiliated, including, but not limited to, any Service Employees International Union (“SEIU” or “International Union”) Convention that may take place during their term of office, subject to the allocation of delegates to SEIU Local 73 by the International Union and consistent with the relevant provisions of SEIU Local 73’s Constitution and Bylaws.

In compliance with Article 12 of the SEIU Local 73 Constitution and Bylaws, adopted July 9, 2018, SEIU Local 73 is conducting an election for vacant Leadership Assembly Delegates positions of SEIU Local 73

The term of office for the elected candidates will run for two (2) years from the date the candidates are sworn in on or by December 14, 2019 until their successors are duly elected and installed. The candidates elected in conformity with all applicable statutes shall, by virtue of such election, be considered to be eligible delegates to attend all conventions and delegate bodies to which SEIU Local 73 is affiliated, including, but not limited to, any Service Employees International Union (“SEIU” or “International Union”) Convention that may take place during their term of office, subject to the allocation of delegates to SEIU Local 73 by the International Union and consistent with the relevant provisions of SEIU Local 73’s Constitution and Bylaws.

 

Elecciones de puestos oficiales

De acuerdo con los términos del Acuerdo de Cumplimiento Voluntario entre el Departamento de Trabajo de los Estados Unidos (DOL), la Oficina de Normas de Gestión Laboral (OLMS) y el Local 73 del Sindicato Internacional de Empleados de Servicios (SEIU), el Local 73 de SEIU realizará una nueva elección bajo la supervisión del Secretario de Trabajo para los siguientes cargos: presidente, secretario tesorero, dos (2) vicepresidentes ejecutivos, cinco (5) vicepresidentes, dos (2) miembros de la junta ejecutiva de la Región 2 (UIC), tres (3) Región 3 ( Miembros de la junta ejecutiva del condado de Cook), dos (2) miembros de la junta ejecutiva de la Región 7 (Otros empleadores en la ciudad de Chicago) y un (1) miembro de la junta ejecutiva de la región 13 (noroeste de Indiana). Los ocho (8) puestos de miembros de la junta ejecutiva serán elegidos por los miembros en sus respectivas regiones y todos los demás puestos serán elegidos por los miembros en general.

El mandato será por el resto del período de tres años no vencido que comenzó el 8 de noviembre de 2018 y continuará hasta que sus sucesores sean debidamente elegidos e instalados. La instalación de los oficiales se realizará antes del 22 de noviembre de 2019.

El acuerdo de cumplimiento voluntario también prevé que se realicen nuevas nominaciones para cualquier carrera en la que un candidato de la elección impugnada abandone la candidatura o se considere no elegible. A partir de esta fecha, tres candidatos rechazaron la candidatura o se consideraron no elegibles. Por lo tanto, las nominaciones para los siguientes cargos solo se reabrirán el 26 de agosto de 2019: miembro de la Junta Ejecutiva de la Región 2, miembro de la Junta Ejecutiva de la Región 7 y miembro de la Junta Ejecutiva de la Región 13. Se requerirá que los nuevos nominados obtengan la misma cantidad de firmas de petición requeridas de los candidatos durante la elección impugnada. No se requerirá que los candidatos de las elecciones impugnadas de octubre de 2018 que sean elegibles para postularse en esta elección obtengan nuevas firmas de petición..

Las nominaciones y elecciones se llevarán a cabo de conformidad con el Título IV de la Ley de Informes y Divulgación de la Gestión Laboral de 1959 (LMRDA), y en la medida en que sea legal y factible, de conformidad con las disposiciones de la Constitución y los Estatutos de la SEIU Local 73 adoptada en julio 9 de 2018 y la Constitución Internacional de SEIU de 2016.

 

Elecciones para delegados

De conformidad con el Artículo 12 de la Constitución y los Estatutos del Local 73 de SEIU, adoptado el 9 de julio de 2018, el Local 73 de SEIU está llevando a cabo una elección para puestos vacantes de Delegados de la Asamblea de Liderazgo del Local 73 de SEIU.

El mandato de los candidatos elegidos se extenderá por dos (2) años a partir de la fecha en que los candidatos juren el 14 de diciembre de 2019 o hasta que sus sucesores sean debidamente elegidos e instalados. Los candidatos elegidos de conformidad con todos los estatutos aplicables, en virtud de dicha elección, se considerarán delegados elegibles para asistir a todas las convenciones y organismos delegados a los que SEIU Local 73 esté afiliado, incluido, entre otros, cualquier Unión Internacional de Empleados de Servicio (“SEIU” o “Unión Internacional”) Convención que puede tener lugar durante su mandato, sujeto a la asignación de delegados al SEIU Local 73 por la Unión Internacional y de conformidad con las disposiciones pertinentes de la Constitución y los Estatutos del SEIU Local 73.
