James “Big Jim” Phipps, Region 3, Executive Board I have work as a Custodian of Records for the Clerk of Cook County for the last 40 years. In the summer of 1964 I worked with John Lewis, Marion Barr, Fannie Lou Hammer and Stokley Carmichael as a Field Organizer for SNCC, deep in the Mississippi Delta, organizing workers to vote and get involved in different civil rights programs. I was involved in with the National and Chicago Welfare League Campaign advocating for adequate income for all workers. I helped organize the James Meredith March in 1966 marching over 220 miles from Memphis to Jackson, Mississippi to counter protest the ongoing racism in the Mississippi delta. I worked for the Chicago Housing Authority in Community Relations with my responsibilities in helping children with recreation and educational programs. I have been a member of SEIU local 73 for 28 years, I have fought for worker rights and social justice all my life and will continue the fight. I am proud to be a member of the 73 Rising Slate. I am asking for your vote for me and the 73 Rising slate.
