SEIU Local 73 Makes Formal Demand to Bargain Over Hazard Pay and COVID-19 with UIC

On November 13, 2020, Governor Pritzker issued a proclamation declaring all counties in Illinois as disaster areas due to the increasing spread of COVID-19 and related hospitalizations. Per SEIU Local 73 @ UIC’s new contracts, the UIC bargaining committee has submitted a formal demand to bargain over hazard pay and COVID-19 conditions at the University of Illinois-Chicago per the following articles:

• Clerical: Article IV, Section 15
• Technical: Article 4, Section 4.22
• Professional: Article 5, Section 5.22
• Service & Maintenance: Article IV, Section 11

A tentative meeting with management is scheduled for November 24, 2020, including representatives from each of the bargaining units.

SEIU Local 73 members won in September but  knew the fight wasn’t over.
