LoyolaAction_12-4-17

On Monday, December 4, The Loyola graduate student employee union (as part of SEIU Local 73) hosted a rally on campus against the tax scam bill that would tax student loan debt, gut university funding resources, and tax grad student tuition waivers.

50 grads, non-tenure track faculty, students, and tenure track faculty came together to protest the bill and called on local Illinois Republican Congressman, Peter Roskam, to slow down the bill, commit to a transparent and democratic legislative process and not sacrifice higher ed to give tax cuts to corporations and the top 1%. The rally ended with a march to the provost’s office where the marchers demanded recognition of the graduate employee union at Loyola, and an agreement with the non-tenure track faculty by the end of the academic year.

In the face of these attacks against higher education in Washington DC, graduate workers and faculty need a union more than ever.
