Win! Ward Clerks and Health Advocates at CCHHS No Longer Have to Stay an Extra 15 mins

Our Ward Clerks and Health Advocates at Cook County Health and Hospitals Systems no longer have to stay en extra 15 minutes after their shift to provide “pass off.”

"When we stick together and speak with one voice we can accomplish a lot of good things. I'm proud of the work that SEIU Local 73 members did working with co-Trustee Dian Palmer to make this win happen!" Glory Nowak, Health Advocate.

We won this victory as a direct result of member involvement:

  • Member leaders on the bargaining committee argued forcefully on this issue during both Universal and Local negotiations.
  • Dian Palmer, co-Trustee of our Local, kept raising this issue with management and held their feet to the fire when she got the usual County run around.
  • Member engagement: Stroger Ward Clerks and Health Advocates moved petitions on the floors and members across the system filled out bargaining surveys to get the 15 minutes removed.

We are now working to make a permanent agreement in writing. Stay tuned for next steps!
