UIUC Members Win Wage Increases and Job Protections in New Contracts

Building service and food service workers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign won wage increases and important job protections after ratifying their tentative agreement on a new contract Monday.

More than 90 percent of food service workers and 96 percent of building service workers voted to accept the tentative agreement that was reached last week during federal mediation. Voting began Saturday in Urbana and continued all day today at the Champaign Public Library. The contract comes after dozens of actions, pickets, and rallies to fight for a fair contract, including caroling outside the university home of President Timothy Killeen shortly before Christmas.

“We are excited that we reached a fair agreement that provides wage increases for our families and includes changes that benefits both workers and the university,” said Aaron Ammons, a building service worker and chapter president.
