City of Chicago For Sale, Mayor Rahm Says…

We Say Stop the Attack on Unionized workers!

Earlier this year, Mayor Emanuel introduced “Managed Competition.” What does this term mean? So far, no one at City Hall has been able to articulate what exactly this new term means.

From what we have been told, Managed Competition means that anywhere the City can privatize the work force, they can and will do so.

Mayor Emanuel announced that the City of Chicago will have managed competition with the custodians at O’Hare Airport and in Chicago public libraries.

Privatization Will Not Save Money!

It seems once again the Mayor forgot to mention one thing: the City of Chicago will not save one dime from this deal since the City doesn’t pay for the custodians at both O’Hare and Midway Airport. The custodians are paid through an enterprise fund which includes all benefits, and custodians at libraries are paid through federal grants given to the Chicago Library system.

Other Unions  have been able to beat back this idea by proving their members can do the job better and more efficient, and we will do the same! We do the best work possible and more efficient than any private company, and need to continue to show the City this.

Aviation Officers Get Body Armor

After months of working with the City of Chicago, we were able to secure bulletproof vests for all officers working in the Department of Aviation. Officers will begin wearing the vests later this month.
